It All Starts with a funeral
For over 25 years, the Roberts family has lived across the vast paddocks of Western Australia’s Midwest—where privilege masks silence, and history is shaped by what’s left unsaid.
Beneath the surface, long-buried truths and unresolved conflicts threaten to surface.
When the consequences of decades-old decisions return, the next generation must confront a past they were never meant to uncover.

About
I choose to write under another name to maintain anonymity. In another life, I spent many years behind steering wheels—whether on roads or in paddocks. I spent time around livestock, which taught me patience and the understanding that different animals need to be treated differently—much like people. It also gave me plenty of time for my imagination shape, allowing fanciful stories to evolve from the first chapters I wrote over twenty years ago, blending inspiration from history and personal experience.
When I decided to revisit this book and start writing again, I had to buy a special drive just to access an old 3.5" floppy disk. It was a sobering reminder of how much time had passed—so much so that references to Churchill had to be updated with Thatcher.
Back then, writing was hindered by a lack of knowledge and the challenges of isolation. Today, the internet has opened endless opportunities to learn and grow, providing the resources needed to gain deeper knowledge and understanding.
As the years pass, perspectives shift, and we must adapt to avoid repeating the mistakes of the past. Yet, even with wisdom, those mistakes still find a way to happen.
As a proud Sandgroper who traveled through the Eastern Block before the fall of the Berlin Wall, I understand how fortunate we are to live in such a beautiful part of the world. However, my travels also revealed the incredible hope and kindness of those who lived under oppression, a reminder of resilience and the human spirit.
